The Christian Zane team celebrates the style of iconic women who inspire our creations.

Christian Zane jewels, handmade in Milan, are as unique as the woman who wears them. An exploration of color and harmonies, imbued with the richness of tradition and craftsmanship, our jewelry is a quintessential companion for any woman who is not afraid to express and celebrate her true self.

Throughout history, there have been many fierce, confident women whose trailblazing personal style and inherent glamour has earned them the status of timeless icons.

One such woman is Mexican artist and activist, Frida Khalo.

Frida Khalo inspires our team with her bold, colorful sartorial choices and nonchalant theatricality. She is our “Muse Moment”: the first (quite fittingly) in a series of blog posts that honor all the iconic women who have influenced Christian Zane’s creations.

Notoriously unafraid of combining chunky necklaces with statement earrings and kaleidoscopic flower crowns, Frida Kahlo approached dressing up with the same defiance she approached mixing colors on her canvas for her many self-portraits.

Born in 1907, Frida Kahlo’s creativity shone through every aspect of her life. Especially as she faced great hardships. Her maximalist approach when it came to adorning herself was equally inspired by the struggles of Mexican people and her country’s rich folklore, but also from her inner need to fight back against several health problems and injuries that plighted her all her life.

The painter’s determination to rise through the pain and greet each day as a new cause for celebration and exuberance, is one of the reasons why she remains such an influential figure to this day. Frida Kahlo’s imagination truly had no bounds: she would stack on long necklaces, made from different textures and in different color palettes and defy minimalism by adding a bold pair of earrings to her already bold look. She incorporated religious and folk symbols and revelled in the use of flowers and precious stones such as jade, whose long history dates back to her Mayan ancestors.

She appreciated history and tradition, but was never afraid to have fun with it.

That’s exactly the approach we take here at Christian Zane jewelry. We view each piece of handmade jewelry as a treasured creation, a luxurious work of art that should not be kept on a shelf, but put on by amazing, fierce women who live their every day with the same aplomb as Frida Kahlo did.
